Saranac Lake Paddling Trip

Saranac Lake Paddling Trip

Grab your paddle as we explore the Saranac Lake region by water! Campers will spend the first night at Trefoil packing and preparing for our backcountry paddling adventure. We'll launch our boats from Upper Saranac Lake and spend the next 5 days paddling through Middle Saranac Lake and ending our journey in Lower Saranac Lake. Campers will experience a portage, locks, and wide-open scenic views. We'll be primitive camping in tents, lean-tos, and/or hammocks at a different site each night, cooking all meals over a trip stove, and filtering water. Campers must have prior paddling experience and must be physically and mentally prepared to paddle the full length of the trip. This trip is open to grades 7-12 but recommended for grades 9-12.

Saranac 6er Hiking Trip

Grab your hiking boots as we tackle half of the Saranac Lake 6er hiking challenge! Campers will spend the first night at Trefoil packing and preparing for our Adirondack adventure. The rest of the week will be spent tent camping at a campground in the Saranac Lake region. We will hike 3 of the 6 mountains, ranging from 1.8 to 7.6 miles roundtrip. Campers must have prior hiking experience and be prepared to hike all 3 mountains. Get ready for scenic summit views and many miles of memories as you develop your camping and hiking skills and make close friendships along the way.

Troop Core

This camping experience is for Girl Scouts and their troop leaders to enjoy a fun, community-based camping weekend. Girls and leaders will enjoy classic camp activities, such as archery, swimming, boating, the ropes course, and more facilitated by our camp staff. Meals are provided throughout the duration of the program. Troop Leaders do not need to have completed First Aid, SSO, or SSC training to attend.

Get messy with a paint fight, get wild with a prank, and get ready for fun surprises in the dining hall. Campers will also get to participate in all classic camp activities.

Do you want to be a camp counselor when you’re older or just want to develop your leadership skills? CIT is perfect for you! CITs spend the week building important life and camp skills, while still participating in camp activities. Explore the pathway to becoming a camp counselor, as you learn about the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, child behavior and characteristics, and outdoor skills. You will also learn more about yourself and others through a personality assessment. Of course, you will also get to experience some of the best parts of being a counselor – leading super fun activities, singing camp songs, and being an important role model for our younger campers. CITs will spend nights in their own cabin and receive leadership guidance from the CIT Counselor, while spending their days leading activities for younger campers and observing counselors. All interested campers must have prior summer camp experience, complete an application, and interview to be considered for the program.

Paddling Intro Trip

Get an introduction to paddling as we embark on an overnight trip to Cranberry Lake. Friday night campers will stay at Trefoil as we pack and prepare the trip. Saturday morning we'll launch our boats on Cranberry Lake and paddle to Joe Indian Island for a primitive overnight camping experience. We'll be tent or hammock camping and preparing all meals on trip stoves. Campers will strengthen their paddling skills while also learning how to purify water and other important outdoor skills. Campers do not need trip experience but need to have paddled before.

Hiking Intro Trip

Calling all hiking beginners and experts! Join Smalls for a weekend hiking adventure as we tackle the Tupper Lake Triad mountains in the Adirondacks. Friday night we’ll stay at Trefoil as we pack and prepare for the trip. Saturday and Sunday we’ll hike Arab (and its fire tower), Goodman, and Coney mountains. All are easy hikes ranging from 2-3.5 miles roundtrip. Saturday night we’ll tent camp at a Tupper Lake area campground. Upon completion of all 3 hikes, participants will be registered on the official Tupper Lake Triad roster and receive the official patch. This weekend trip is a great introduction to hiking and tent camping as we get our boots muddy.

Simply Successful Camping Training

Simply Successful Camping Training

Has your troop gone on overnights and now you're ready for camping in a lodge, cabin, or tent? Then it's time to take Simply Successful Camping (SSC) and learn to plan and facilitate a safe group outing. We will prepare meals using various outdoor cooking methods, practice knife-safety, fire building, and more. Pre-requisites: Simply Successful Overnights (SSO) and one group overnight experience. Once registered you will receive an email containing a link to complete the required pre-course for Simply Successful Camping.  The pre-course will take approximately one hour to complete through gslearn. Please Note:  There is an overnight option available for this session. This training is for adults only.

Adult Archery Training

All registered adults and volunteers are invited to earn their archery certification. This GSNYPENN certification will allow you to teach archery to Girl Scouts at any of our Girl Scout camp properties. The instructor for the class is Trefoil Camp Director, Beth Jennings, USA Archery Level 2 Instructor. Open to all adults with a current Girl Scout membership. Register

Maple Weekend

Take a tour of our Maple Sugar Shack and learn about the process of making maple syrup. Camp Director "Smalls" will take you on a walk of the property to learn about the taps and the collection system. Camp Ranger "Batman" will then give your group a tour of the Sugar Shack so you can learn about the boiling process. We hope to be boiling sap during each tour to show the process in action, however, this is not guaranteed due to unknowns such as supply and weather. After your tour, your group is welcome to explore camp on your own. Our camp store, Trading Post, will be open so you can purchase Trefoil maple syrup and other camp merchandise to take home.

Junior Badge Weekend

Junior Badge Weekend

Head out to Camp Trefoil for the weekend and earn three badges. We will complete steps for the following: Junior First Aid, Junior Mechanical Engineering (Paddle Boat) and Junior Simple Meals. You will also have time to enjoy camp activities! Participants will be staying overnight at Camp Trefoil in a winterized facility. All food will be provided throughout the duration of the program.

Open to Junior Girl Scouts. Girls may attend this program without an adult. Adults that register for the program will assist with supervision of all attendees. Registration closes February 27.

S'more Snow

Enjoy the winter season with an afternoon at Trefoil. You will have the chance to snowshoe and cross-country ski our trails, go sledding, make a craft, and make a big snowgirl in the field. Snack will be provided. We will meet some of the requirements included in the Daisy and Brownie Snow Adventure badges.

American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training

American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training

Come out and earn your official American Red Cross Babysitting certificate. Girls will spend 2 days learning skills and techniques to jump start their babysitting business. They will learn how to recognize an emergency, care for different age groups, and how to administer pediatric First Aid/CPR. We will break down the characteristics of each age group and learn some tips and tricks on how to be effective while babysitting.

Participants will be staying overnight at Camp Trefoil in a winterized facility. All food will be provided throughout the duration of the program. Handbooks will be provided for each participant. Girls may attend this program without an adult. Adults that do register for the program will be asked to assist with supervision throughout the duration of the program. 

Open to Girl Scouts in Grades 6-12. Registration closes February 7th.

Meet the Camp Team at a Taste of Camp event!

Get outside and meet your Camp Directors this Spring at a park near you! Girls will get to participate in some camp-themed activities, which may include roasting s’mores, cooking a hotdog on a fire, and a craft. These programs are drop-in style, so stay for a while, stay for a bit, make new friends, ask questions and have some fun! Register for a Taste of Camp event (additional locations to be added soon)
